I welcome that the Chancellor has announced a £2 billion Green Homes Grant scheme in his Summer Statement. From September 2020, this grant will enable eligible homeowners and landlords in England to apply for vouchers to make their homes more energy efficient by introducing measures such as wall insulation, double glazing or loft insulation. The grants will cover at least two thirds of the cost and up to £5,000. Low-income households will receive a £10,000 voucher. It is estimated that this scheme could make 650,000 homes more energy efficient and could save households up to £300 a year on bills.
I know that my Conservative colleagues in the Welsh Parliament are calling on the Welsh Government to introduce a £100 million scheme in Wales as a matter of urgency. This will help to bolster the Welsh economy while saving households money. It is important that the people of Wales can receive the same benefits as those across the border.
I will continue to monitor any developments closely.
