I held my fourth free defibrillator training session for local people to learn how to use the life-saving equipment,
Eight people went along to the Conservative Club in Holyhead on Friday for the two-hour tutorial delivered by Llangefni-based Medic 1 trainers Kieren Schulze and Paul Roberts.
The pair covered CPR and use of a defibrillator and there was practical instruction on their use with babies, children and adults.
Many thanks to Medic 1 for coming along and giving free life-saving advice and instruction to local people.
It means the wonderful islanders who gave their time learning how to use a defibrillator and administer CPR are now trained and able to save lives when called upon. This is a win for our community.
Of course, people can still use a defibrillator without training and they are designed to do so but the more people who are confident using one and who can give CPR, the more chance someone’s life will be saved.
Spokesperson for Medic 1 said: “Medic 1 was delighted to be able to provide this service for everybody, and trainers Kieren and Paul were pleased to have the opportunity to share their skills and knowledge with people in the local community.
“We were able to teach people safe and effective use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and showcase what a difference it can make when bystanders are able to promptly administer basic life support, giving patients the best chance of recovery in the event of an out of hospital cardiac arrest.”
Defibrillators are usually in brightly coloured boxes mounted outside shops, community centres and other buildings.
These pieces of first aid equipment are designed to be used by members of the public to restart someone’s heart if they have gone into cardiac arrest.
