The demolition of something that has been on the Anglesey skyline for 50 years and a symbol of our island’s industrial past is always going to elicit mixed emotions. But I am someone who looks forward and I see this chimney coming down on Wednesday 20th March as the end of one era and the rapid beginning of another. The new freeport is the next exciting phase for Ynys Môn and the demolition of the whole Anglesey Aluminium site is another foot forward for this huge investment in our island and its potential for jobs for decades to come. I couldn’t be prouder to have played my role in Anglesey receiving freeport status. Due to my Westminster commitments, I will not be there on the day to see it happen, but I will be getting plenty of videos and pictures of the event. It’s a big day for our island.
