A Caergeiliog man who has dedicated a decade to scouting on the island is my February Hidden Hero
Anthony Madden is the 2nd Holyhead Group Scout Leader and followed in the footsteps of his father who was a Group Scout Leader at Rhosneigr, when he took on the role.
Previously he had left the island to join the Royal Navy as a submariner but came back to his roots to give back to his community.
“I am humbled and honoured to receive this award as I am recognised for helping in the community," Anthony said.
“I’m fortunate in leading an amazing team at 2nd Holyhead (St Cybi) Scout Group which supports almost 100 members. Carrying on the tradition of providing Scouting to the local community which started on 26th May 1909 when Holyhead opened one of the first Scout Troops in Wales.
“Being guided by Scouting Values my team and I engage and support young people and volunteers in their personal development through a badge scheme, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.
“I would like to thank Virginia for this award and her support at 2nd Holyhead Scout Group and I hope it raises awareness of what scouting does in the community not only locally but nationally and internationally.”
I said: Anthony is absolutely committed to the scouting movement and he does so much on the island to help our young people realise their potential.
“He is an inspiration and I believe him to be a worthy winner of my Hidden Hero award.”
