The British Energy Security Strategy will scale up and accelerate clean, affordable and secure energy made in Great Britain โ from North Sea oil and gas to nuclear and offshore wind.
This includes a significant new approach to nuclear energy by delivering eight new reactors in the UK, at the pace equivalent to one a year instead of one a decade. Under the plans 95 per cent of electricity will be low carbon renewables like wind, solar and hydrogen by 2030.
This will ultimately bring down bills through boosting supplies of home-grown energy, reduce our gas imports, strengthen our energy security and create good quality jobs. The export opportunities are immense and for the first time in generations we are well placed to seize them โ we need Rolls-Royce plc orders for SMRs in the UK to boost advanced manufacturing jobs.
As Chairperson of the Nuclear Delivery Group I have championed the case for both SMRs and new nuclear at Wylfa to be bought to Ynys Mรดn. I am working with prospective developers, Bangor University and Grลตp Llandrillo Menai to ensure our young people are primed and ready to take advantage of the new job opportunities that new nuclear on Anglesey will bring.
New nuclear will provide a future for our children and boost our local economy - keeping our communities, language and culture alive.
