Virginia Crosbie MP praises Anglesey Show in Parliament

Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie has mentioned the Anglesey Agricultural Show in parliament when she paid tribute to the organisers and volunteers that make it happen.

Speaking in a Westminster Hall debate on agricultural and country shows, Virginia said the show on the 9th and 10th of August “is perhaps the most high-profile event on the Ynys Môn calendar”.

“It has a proud history, going back over 200 years,” she told MPs. “Over 50,000 people flock to the show to see livestock, equestrian events, local crafts and food and, this year, even giant tortoises.

“That show owes its success to a team of hard-working volunteers…it is vital that we give support to shows such as Anglesey’s to support our rural communities and rural heritage.”

Speaking afterwards Virginia added: “These shows are an important part of our rural life here in Wales. This week I spent a day at the Royal Welsh Show in Llanelwedd supporting our local farmers and producers.

“But our own island show is the one I am looking forward to and I will be there to support our rural community. It is going to be a special show after two years without one due to Covid.

“Can I please ask everyone on the island to consider going?  It will be a fab day out and a great advertisement for Welsh farming and Welsh produce.”
