I am very excited to be sponsoring a Private Members Bill, to ensure that tips, gratuities and service charges paid by customers are allocated to all workers fairly. In September 2021 UK Government stated that 80% of all UK tipping now happens by card, rather than cash, and raised concerns around the possibility of tips being less likely to be passed onto staff.
Although tourism is a devolved matter โ This bill proposes amendments to the Employment Rights Act 1996 and so will benefit my constituents, with tourism in Wales accounting for 12% of all employment in Wales.
As well as hospitality and tourism, this bill may also apply to those working in the health and beauty industry, private car hire, food delivery drivers, tour guides and more.
I need your help and I want you to have your say on the Bill as it progresses through Parliament. I am organising an informal meeting on Tuesday 18th October at Sandy Mount House for staff and proprietors affected by this bill. To register to attend, or to give your thoughts on the proposal please fill in the survey below.
