Both Anglesey County Council and Amlwch Town Council have been in touch with me recently about solar farms that have been proposed for Ynys Môn.
With Anglesey positioned as Energy Island and the need to develop energy security, such proposals need to be carefully considered from local, regional and national perspectives.
I share Anglesey Council’s carefully considered response to the proposals.
They outline their concerns about the size of the proposed farms and potential impact on host communities, including the visual effect and the impact on the environment, agriculture and food security.
They also state that they are open to discussions to ensure that any such proposals are sustainable, have as little impact on the environment as possible and that they generate economic opportunities and benefits for the host community.
Along with the Council, I want the best for the future of Ynys Môn. Renewable energy has an important role in our energy mix, but we must make sure that renewable developments on Anglesey benefit our island, its people and its future.
