It is significant that the UK Government has committed £9 billion to the Affordable Homes Programme to deliver approximately 250,000 new affordable homes, including homes for social rent. Additionally, at the last Budget £12 billion was announced to build 180,000 affordable homes between 2021-22 and 2025-26, making it the largest cash investment in affordable housing in a decade.
It is unfortunate that housing is a devolved matter so these schemes will not be available to those trying to purchase a home on the island. I hope the Welsh Government will follow the UK Government in delivering such important schemes. However, I am still supporting and monitoring local housing associations. These include a number of meetings with representatives from Clwyd Alyn Housing Association in relation to their developments.
