Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie has welcomed the Welsh Government’s pledge that CPR skills will be on the school curriculum after Conservative MS and MPs wrote to the education minister asking for action.
The lessons are already taught in England and Scotland and the Prime Minister Boris Johnson also backed the calls for the same to happen in Wales earlier this month.
Education Minister Kirsty Williams has confirmed the technique will be added to the new Curriculum and Assessment (Wales) Bill.
“I am pleased the Welsh government has listened to 20 MS and MPs, to campaigners and the public across Wales and finally made this decision,” said Virginia.
“Many thanks should go to Delyn MP Rob Roberts for his work in getting this assurance and to Paul Maguire and his daughters for bravely highlighting this issue despite their bereavement. Particular thanks should also go to Suzy Davies MS for South West Wales who secured the commitment from the Education Minister.
“This inclusion of CPR education in schools will save lives in Wales in the years to come.”
