Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie has praised islanders for taking two charity walkers to their hearts as they circumnavigate Anglesey this week.
Virginia took Tracey Hannam and Wayne Lewin out to lunch at Dylan’s in Menai Bridge to discuss their trek and thank them for their charity work.
Tracey is raising money for the mental health charity MIND and Wayne is supporting Children in Need as both walk the 11,000 miles around the UK.
The pair told Virginia they have been overwhelmed by the generosity of islanders with offers of food, donations and accommodation.
They told Virginia they have been ‘cwtched’ all the way.
Residents have offered to do their washing, given them gardens to pitch tents and handed over Welsh cakes. MoJos café in Rhosneigr gave them pancakes.
In recognition Virginia has made them Hidden Heroes of the island.
“It was inspiring to meet Tracey and Wayne who have been walking around Anglesey these last few days as part of their UK charity trek,” she said.
“It was a privilege to chat to them over lunch and to hear their stories of courage and compassion.
“The island has certainly taken these two friends to its heart. A couple celebrating their 21st wedding anniversary on the next table gave them £10 while we were chatting!
“I wish them well as they walk to Chester and then on to the next leg of their journey around Scotland!”
