Virginia Crosbie, MP for Ynys Môn, has announced her Hidden Heroes for April as husband and wife team, Mark and Dawn Colley, who run DC Cleaning Services in Llanfaelog.
“As owners of a small family-run cleaning business, Mark and Dawn have worked tirelessly since the start of the pandemic and have become the go-to people for local expertise and advice on all things sanitary.
“They deserve this award for the hard work and knowledge which has helped to keep the businesses they work for and the community around them as safe as possible.
“Alongside their business, Dawn is also a regular volunteer and has trained as a Wellbeing Champion for their team at DC Cleaning Services. I know that they have gone above and beyond to support family, friends and colleagues throughout the past year.”
Deb, who nominated them, said: “Being a small local family business they add character, warmth and familiarity to the places they work. This is something that has been vital within the past year and something that larger companies from away cannot offer.”
Dawn/Mark said: “It is a great honour and a shock to have been nominated. There are so many people so much worse off than us, so anything we have been able to do however small has been a pleasure.
“We love the work we do and the people we meet. Some have called us key workers, as like cleaners everywhere we have been working in the background on the front line sanitizing against the virus.
“About 70 percent of our business has been closed with many of our team having to go on furlough. We have done our best to keep peoples jobs but cannot wait to get everyone back and welcome new faces to our team.
“Dawn has continued her charity work developing new skills switching from face to face meetings to telephone contacts. Which was challenging but one that I think is working well and will continue post lockdown.
“Despite the long shifts I wanted to bring family, friends and our local community together doing virtual discos giving people something to look forward to. We both get our vaccines this weekend so it’s the first step to normality. Stay safe everyone.”
